Mortgage lending in the first quarter of 2023 (January to March 2023):

Building societies approved 85,234 mortgage loans, a 36% share of the 239,804 mortgage loans approved across the market in the period. Gross mortgage lending by building societies was 拢13.9&苍产蝉辫;产颈濒濒颈辞苍, accounting for 24% of the 拢58.5 billion total mortgage lending in the UK during the period. Net mortgage lending by building societies (gross lending minus repayments) was 拢0.5&苍产蝉辫;产颈濒濒颈辞苍, a 132% share of total net lending across the market of 拢0.4 billion. This leaves building societies with outstanding mortgage balances of 拢370.0&苍产蝉辫;产颈濒濒颈辞苍 at the end of March 2022, a 23% market share.

Savings

Household savings in the first quarter of 2023 (January to March 2023):

Savings balances at building societies increased by 拢8.5&苍产蝉辫;产颈濒濒颈辞苍, whereas balances fell by 拢4.7 billion across the market. Savings balances outstanding at building societies now stand at 拢362.1&苍产蝉辫;产颈濒濒颈辞苍, a 19% market share of the total 拢1,954.3 billion across the market.
